The property

Dark wood cladding, offset volumes around a preserved eucalyptus. Light crosses the house completely at sunset.

Completed in 2016 by a French architecture studio, this house was designed around a tree the owners refused to fell. The entire plan stems from this: two offset volumes that curve around the eucalyptus, a terrace that wraps it, and from the living room, the sensation of living beneath its branches.

The ground floor opens entirely onto the garden through sliding glass doors. Upstairs, four west-facing bedrooms receive late-day light. The materials—larch cladding, polished concrete, solid oak—were chosen to age without heavy maintenance.

The plot borders a classified woodland: no construction will obstruct the view.

Location

28 km from Paris, 12 minutes from Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche station. Schools and shops in the village.
